The following information is intended to help you identify the transportation resources available in your area.  They range from senior centers to veterans offices and more.  If you need assistance finding transportation, please call Margaret Mixon, Regional Mobility Manager, at (203) 365-8522 ext. 263.

 

 

BRIDGEPORT

The Bridgeport Veterans Affairs office offers rides to the VA Hospital in West Haven.  The free transportation program is open to Bridgeport veterans and their spouses. The shuttle runs Monday through Friday and makes two round-trips each day leaving the Veteran’s Affairs Office (752 East Main Street) at 9:45 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. For more information please call (203) 336-2570.

LogistiCare

For Medicaid members only. 70 + seniors and paratransit users that live beyond 4 blocks from public transportation can apply for medical rides only. Advance reservations are required and mileage restrictions apply. Call (888) 248-9895 for more information. 

 

DARIEN

At Home in Darien Program

At Home in Darien is a twelve passenger van providing door-to-door transportation to serve the needs and enjoyment of Darien’s older citizens as well as for physically disabled residents of all ages.  At Home in Darien will take you to locations in Darien, Stamford and Norwalk such as the library, medical appointments, grocery stores, beauty salons and the Senior Center.

At Home in Darien is on the road Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Because the program is not-for-profit, a voluntary donation of $5.00 is suggested.  For medical appointments it is strongly advised that appointments for rides be made at least 48 hours in advance. GREENWICH

Call-A-Ride of Greenwich

Call-A-Ride offers door-to-door service for ambulatory individuals over the age of 60.  Rides are available Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. by appointment.  The rides are free of charge.  Call (203) 661-6633 for more information.

Transportation Association of Greenwich (TAG)

Dial-A-Ride is a door to door transportation service for Greenwich residents who are elderly (over 60) or disabled. The program operates Monday through Friday from 7:00 A.M. through 7:00 P.M. and Saturday from 8:30 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. Service is provided anywhere between Stamford, Greenwich, Port Chester, Rye and White Plains for any purpose. Reservations must be made at least one day in advance by calling TAG at (203) 637-4345 or two days in advance for email reservations at: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..  A fee of $3.00 is charged for each one way trip.

 

FAIRFIELD

Fairfield Senior Center

The Senior Center’s transportation program offers rides to and from the Senior Center, doctors appointments, food shopping and special approved trips.  The bus service is available Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 am to 3:00 pm.  The service is designed for seniors over 55 and people with disabilities.  A small fee is required.  Call (203) 256-3168 for more information.

Fairfield Dial-A-Ride

The Dial-A-Ride program provides transportation for eligible residents who are over the age of 65 or adults who are permanently disabled.  The program is intended for those with limited resources who find it difficult to access transportation.  The Town of Fairfield has contracted with the Greater Bridgeport Transit Authority to operate the program.  The hours of service are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week.  The service area is from Fairfield to Bridgeport, Trumbull, and Stratford.  The three target groups for the service are homebound seniors, homebound people with disabilities and veterans.  The trips can be for shopping and entertainment, visits to family and friends, shopping, church and the VA hospital in West Haven.  Call (203) 256-3170 for more information and application.

 

NEW CANAAN

Getabout

Getabout's mission is to provide rides within New Canaan to the elderly and people with disabilities populations.  Five vans, four of them with wheelchair capability, operate eight hours a day Monday through Friday. Within New Canaan, transportation is provided to any destination.  Voluntary contributions of $3.00 per one way ride are suggested to help defray expenses. Getabout provides rides to medical destinations in Darien, Wilton, Stamford and Norwalk including Tully Medical Center, Stamford and Norwalk Hospitals, doctors and dentists offices, therapists and clinics. No donation is expected for rides to medical appointments.  Rides must be reserved one day in advance by calling 203-972-7433.

 ITN Coastal Connecticut

ITN provides rides with door-to-door, arm-through-arm service to seniors.  The program allows older people to trade their own cars to pay for rides, and enable volunteer drivers to store transportation credits for their own future transportation needs.  For more information call (203) 858-2001.

 

STAMFORD

Stamford Senior Services

The Senior Center has one van dedicated to transporting elderly and people with disabilities.  The door-to-door service runs on Tuesday and Thursday at no charge.  For more information call (203) 324-6584.  

Voluntary Service for the Blind

Clients who need drivers must be mobile and provide a doctor’s note stating that they are medically stable to be driven in a car.  Clients need to be flexible in their time requirements, since most volunteers have limited availability.  For more information call (203) 324-6611.

 

STRATFORD

Stratford Senior Center

Mini bus transportation is available Monday-Friday within Stratford and the surrounding vicinity.  Please call 203-385-4051 at least one week in advance for appointments.  Passengers are allowed a maximum of two rides per week, depending upon availability.  Medical rides take priority and are free, they may be scheduled up to four months in advance.  The fee for non-medical trips is $2 round trip. 

 

TRUMBULL

Trumbull Senior Center

The senior transportation department provides curbside services to seniors age 60 and over without transportation or who are unable to drive. Services include doctor’s appointments, shopping, nutrition program, dentist appointments and legal appointments.  Please call (203) 452-5137 for more information.

 

CTrides

There are many alternatives to driving alone between home and work.  CTrides offers a variety of services individuals can tap into to find the best way to improve a commute, free of charge.  CTrides is a free commuter service from the Connecticut DOT, it offers:

  • Personalized commute consultation;
  • Ride matching services for carpools and vanpools;
  • Vanpool formation;
  • Information on transit schedules and schedules (train, bus, ferry);
  • Park-and-Ride locations;
  • Construction updates; and
  • Cost saving information.

Friends in Service Here (FISH) of Stamford, Inc.

FISH is an all-volunteer group that provides transportation in the Stamford area for those of all ages who have no other means of reaching health facilities. Volunteer drivers provide transportation in their own vehicles Monday thru Thursday 9AM to 4PM. Those requesting rides must be ambulatory - no wheel chairs can be accommodated.  For more information visit their website at volunteer.truist.com.
